Summary

In accordance with district policies and procedures, the assistant athletic coach will carry out the aims of the district athletic program and MSHSAA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A person who holds this position must:

  • Be responsible for the information contained in the Wildcat Standards and implementation of the policies/procedures/goals therein.
  • Support the head athletic coach in that particular sport and the total athletic program of Neosho School District in general.
  • Complete all MSHSAA coaching requirements.
  • Attend staff and team meetings when called by the head coach.
  • Assume any duties assigned by the head athletic coach pertaining to the overall athletic program of the particular sport. Some of these duties might be: conducting portions of practice drills, handling equipment, determining eligibility, working with student managers, public relations, and statistics.
  • In the absence of the head athletic coach, he/she shall assume all responsibilities herein designated as those of the head athletic coach.
  • Perform other duties related to the position of assistant athletic coach as requested by the high school principal and/or activities director

 

Supervisory Duties

Supervision of student athletes at all times. This includes practices, games, and locker room supervision until all student athletes have left the building and ensuring that the facility is locked.

 

Qualifications

Certification – Missouri Teacher Certificate

Prior coaching experience is desired.

Must successfully pass a background check.

Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents.

Present information effectively and respond to questions.

Write clear and complete lesson plans.

Use of proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratio and proportions to practical situations.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

Solve a variety of problems in many different situations.

Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use.

 

Additional Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of adolescent students. Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; run; jump; stretch; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes or ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

 

Attendance

Mandatory attendance at all practices, meetings and contests that pertain to the team. Evening and weekend hours as required.
