Summary
To work with classroom teachers to provide support in academic areas for English Language Learners. Work with students to comprehend and demonstrate achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines
- Provide instructional and language support for ESL students
- Understand, support and be able to assist in implementing and communicating ESL goals and objectives
- Assist in preparing classroom materials for Ell students
- Work cooperatively with teachers, students, parents and school administration
- Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities
- Support the staff with phone calls in the parent's home language in reference to school concerns
- Facilitate communication between school, students, teachers and administration
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Education Requirements: There are four pathways available for candidates interested in becoming a Paraprofessional.
1) Complete 60 hours of college credit
2) Have an Associate's Degree or higher
3) Pass the Paraprofessional Assessment - Para Praxis
4) Complete 20 hours of online training through DESE - Register for an online training course here. There is a $180 registration fee. The online training title does not reference paraprofessionals, and is called Substitute Teacher Training. Substitute Teacher Training has been designated as an allowable qualification for paraprofessionals in the state of Missouri
Fluent in English domains, read, write, listen and speaking
Prefer Fluent in Spanish
Desire to work with diverse population of English Learning students.
